Laser Vision Correction is, rather unsurprisingly, becoming more and more popular. Anyone, who had ever had to wear glasses or to remember to take contact lenses out before sleep, will surely appreciate the ability to see clearly without any additional equipment. During a Laser Vision Correction procedure the cornea is being reshaped by a cold laser beam, it’s made either more or less concave – this operation directly changes the refractive power of the eye. It is important not to forget that Laser Vision Correction is a totally safe procedure – it is a modern and a very precise microsurgical method which allows to correct hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism. If you have decided to undergo the surgery the only remaining question is ‘When?’
The procedure itself can be performed throughout the whole year – the date depends only on your personal plans. However, Autumn is a very good month to choose. In September the patients have already had their summer vacations, as it gets colder the patients tend to swim less often, what is more their level of activity, usually high during the summer, starts to drop. After the correction, certain activities, such as swimming or practising contact sports, are strictly prohibited for at least 3 weeks. The three weeks are a minimum for the cornea to heal and for the risk of infection to drop significantly. Low intensity exercises can be returned to as soon as three days after the surgery, but you have to be careful not to let any fluids near your eyes (including sweat) and not to touch or rub them. What is more, it is advisable not to travel to countries in which the weather differs significantly from our climate – specifically to those countries where temperature
