Blepharoplasty — key facts

01.10.2019

plastyka powiek - najważniejsze faktyEyes are the windows to the human soul, as the well-known saying goes. Undoubtedly, eyes can tell a lot about us, revealing both our emotions and our age. There is no quick cure for soul fatigue, but when it comes to reducing the physical effects of aging blepharoplasty comes as a good solution.

Droopy eyelids makes our face look older as well as sad and tired. Unfortunately, the gentle skin around the eyes loses its elasticity with time. This is when it is worth considering a blepharoplastic procedure. During the surgery excess skin and fatty tissue are removed from the eyelid area. Afterwards, the face regains fresh, radiant look, and appears visibly younger. Therefore, it is not surprising that blepharoplasty becomes more and more popular every year. However, there is still a large number of those who hesitate whether they should undergo the procedure or not. Here are 5 most important facts about the eyelid surgery, which will dispel most of such doubts.

It is usually the mature people, both men and women, who decide to undergo a blepharoplastic procedure. Their decision is predominantly caused by the desire to have “youthful eyes”. Sometimes, however, the reason why they have the eyelid surgery is of more medical nature when the droopy eyelids may distort vision or limit the visual field. Sometimes even young people struggle with the problem of droopy eyelids, which in this case is most frequently caused by a genetic factor.

Candidates for blepharoplasty should be in good general health condition and not have any medical contraindications to the surgery. In the ArtLife Centre the preliminary qualifying examination is conducted by a specialist doctor – an ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon. During the examination the doctor interviews the patient in order to rule out any contraindications to the procedure informs them about the course of the surgery and the convalescence period afterwards. The doctor also evaluates the general condition of the patient’s eyes and tests the vision. Once the candidate is qualified for the procedure, the cost of the examination is deducted from the total cost of the surgery.

Blepharoplasty is safe and uncomplicated. The procedure does not require any particular preparation on part of the patient. It is painless as it is conducted under local anaesthesia in an outpatient setting. Bilateral surgery lasts approximately 50 minutes. After a half-an-hour rest the patient leaves the clinic with an accompanying person. Narrow postoperative dressing is applied on the eyelids, which enables the patient to see the area directly in front of the feet. The dressing can be removed the next day after the procedure.

The eyelid correction does not require a long convalescence period. After the dressing is removed it is especially important to take proper care of the eye hygiene and rinse the eyes with special eye wash. 7 days after the surgery, during a follow-up examination, the doctor removes the stitches, which is painless and lasts approximately 10 minutes.

The eyelids gradually heal and the stitch marks become invisible, because the incisions are made within the natural creases of the eyelids. In the first weeks following the surgery the scars may appear slightly pinkish, yet the colour will soon begin to fade until the scars become virtually invisible.

After a few weeks you can enjoy a rejuvenated, healthy look. If you have any questions do not hesitate do ask our doctors by filling in a special questionnaire in the ASK A DOCTOR or CONTACT tab.
