Corneal ulceration is an inflammatory condition of the involving disruption of its epithelial layer.

Symptoms:
Most common symptoms include: severe pain, photophobia, lacrimation, hazy vision, redness, presence of pus in the eye.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is confirmed by clinical examination.
Treatment:
Treatment includes pharmacological therapy. Depending on the main cause variety of drugs may be used: antibiotics, antiviral or antifungal drugs, drops causing dilation of the pupil and analgesics.
If, due to the disease, corneal haziness and its permanent impairment leading to major vision loss occur, corneal transplant is an only option.
