oczyThe lifestyle we lead these days has a very negative influence on our eyes. Air-conditioned rooms, hours spent in front of computer and smartphone screens, and solar radiation exposure are all detrimental to our eyesight, causing many unpleasant eye conditions or even leading to serious eye diseases. A proper diet plays a vital role in the eye hygiene, as it may strengthen our body from the inside and boost the ocular immune system so that the eyes become more resistant to harmful external factors. So what foods are the most desirable elements of the healthy eye diet?

1. Fish

One of the most essential ingredients of the healthy eye diet is omega-3 polyunsaturated acids, which can be found in fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel and which are building blocks that make up photoreceptors and neural tissue, including the one found in the retina. One of the most important omega-3 polyunsaturated acids is docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), whose deficiency may lead to conditions such as dry eye syndrome.

They contain anthocyanins – dark pigments which also belong to a group of very powerful antioxidants. Anthocyanins prevent the harmful effects of free radicals and enhance the regeneration of the eye parts which have been damaged by them. They are also extremely beneficial to the regeneration of the eye tissue.

Parsley is a treasure trove of vitamin C, which far and foremost strengthens blood vessels in the eyes. Vitamin C deficiency may cause intraocular lens opacity, haemorrhages and effusions which damage the eyesight.
