Do you have a vision defect? If so, a laser vision correction surgery may turn out to be your best investment!

Laser vision correction constitutes a significant one-time expense. The cost of the procedure in particular clinics usually depends on the chosen method. However, is it really more expensive in the long run than regular exchange of contact lenses or glasses? Let’s find out.

Are glasses always the cheapest option? Not necessarily!

It would seem that wearing glasses requires solely a one-time purchase of the frames. However, the human body is constantly changing, and with age the face acquires different shapes, which means that once in a while the frames should be replaced with new, more suitable ones.

Lens replacement on the other hand is required more frequently – it is necessary both in case of refractive error progression and after a longer time of use, when the existing ones become scratched, which consequently hinder vision.

Factors determining the price of glasses lenses:

  • Material they are made of – glass, plastic or polycarbonate – with the latter representing the highest price shelf.
  • Refining coatings – for instance anti-reflective coating, photochromes or blue light filters – indispensable for all those who spend many hours working in front of a computer screen.
  • Lens thickness – in higher refractive errors so-called high-index glasses are often used as they are much thinner than the standard ones, which generates additional costs.
  • Type of the corrected error – undoubtedly, people suffering from astigmatism, who need cylindrical correction, have higher expenses connected with glasses than the short-sighted or far-sighted ones.

It is worth remembering that after the age of 40-45 presbyopia develops, which hinders close-up vision and reading small fonts, e.g. in a newspaper or on the smartphone screen. Then reading glasses become another necessary purchase to make.

Using two different pairs of glasses may be burdensome; that is why people over the age of forty often choose progressive lenses – then they can correct both the refractive error (short-sightedness, far-sightedness or astigmatism) and the effect caused by presbyopia. The cost of such glasses is often estimated at thousands.

Contact lenses – more convenient alternative to glasses?

Wearing contact lenses is more convenient than wearing glasses, especially in case of those who are physically active, but they are more expensive than glasses, regardless of the chosen manufacturer. Moreover, they need to be put on and taken off in appropriate conditions – with a possibility of washing your hands beforehand, for lack of hygiene often results in eye infections.

One-day contact lenses are usually more expensive than monthly ones. The latter, on the other hand, require the purchase of special aqueous solution to store the lenses in. In case of toric lenses, which also correct astigmatism, the expense is higher than when buying standard lenses.

People with a high refractive error or astigmatism sometimes need tailor made contact lenses, outside the standard range offered by the manufacturer, which increases their price and extends the waiting time.

Laserowa korekcja wzroku – efekt na całe życie!

A laser vision correction surgery remodels the shape of the cornea in such a way that the breaking rays of light could focus precisely on the retina, allowing clear vision. However, the procedure may be performed only if the refractive error is stable.

Laser vision correction eliminates the need to replace lenses as well as the risk of infection caused by lens replacement – by touching the eyes with your fingers. You don’t have to remember to order them either!
