How to prepare for a one-day procedure — the examination and the laser vision correction surgery on the same day?

12.11.2021

The first and most essential stage of the-one-day procedure is a qualifying examination. Thoroughly conducted, it allows to obtain the best post-treatment results. However, before you make your appointment, remember about a few important issues, including:

  • Contact lenses – you should stop wearing soft contact lenses at least 7 days before the one-day procedure. In case of hard lenses or toric lenses (cylindrical ones, which correct astigmatism) it is recommended to stop wearing them at least 3 weeks up to a month before the surgery.
  • A medical certificate from a specialist – patients with chronic diseases are required to provide a medical certificate containing information on the types and dosage of medications they take, as well as confirming whether the disease has been stabilised.

The laser vision correction surgery does not require any special preparation on the patient’s part, yet it is worth planning your time appropriately on the day of the one-day procedure and immediately after the surgery.

What you should take into consideration is the fact that the first follow-up appointment is scheduled for the following day in case of the SBK LASIK method, whereas in case of the LASEK and TransPRK (StreamLight) methods – you have to attend a follow-up examination 7 days after the procedure. The patient is informed as to which method is the most suitable in their case only once all the necessary parameters have been verified by the ophthalmic surgeon during the qualifying examination.

Driving a vehicle

If you travel by car, find either a different means of transport or a different driver for this day. During the qualifying examination special pupil-dilating eye drops are administered which cause your vision to be temporarily blurred. This effect normally wears off within 3-4 hours; however, it is not allowed to drive any vehicles during this time.

After the surgery, you are also not supposed to drive until you have your follow-up examination (a day or a week after the procedure depending on the correction method. During this time vision is not stable enough for driving to be safe.

Make-up and false eyelashes

You should not wear make-up neither to the qualifying examination nor to the surgery itself. As far as false eyelashes are concerned, we recommend removing them at least a week or two before the procedure.

Make-up should not be applied for approximately two weeks after the surgery, and false eyelashes should not be worn for the first month after the procedure.

Sick leave and rest

The convalescence period looks differently in case of each patient. Everything depends on the patient’s individual features, predispositions, general health condition, vision defect and the applied correction method.

It is also an important matter what the patient’s profession is and in what conditions they work. A person who does physical work (e.g in the construction industry) will need a much longer break than someone who has an office job.

However, regardless of your occupation, we advise you to make sure you will have about a week to rest after the surgery, so as to allow your eyes to regenerate faster. You do not have to take any holiday leave during this time, as patients are entitled to a sick leave after the procedure.

In order to make an appointment for the one-day procedure, you need to submit a filled in preliminary qualification form available online. Our pricelist contains current prices of particular correction methods (prices refer to a procedure performed on one eye). The cost of the eye drops provided by our centre for you to use for the first month after the procedure is included in the given prices, as is the cost of a pair of glasses with a UV filter, eye shields to use at nights and the first follow-up examination after the surgery.
