How to take care of your eye health? How to take care of your body’s health and enjoy good eyesight? Here are some tips!

Protect your eyes from the UV radiation

The lack of protection and excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation entail a greater risk of developing certain ailments, such as inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea or cataract.

Sunglasses with a UV filter should be worn regardless of the season, because we are exposed to ultraviolet radiation almost every day. It is worth remembering that while selecting the most suitable lenses, we should pay attention to filter markings rather than the dark shade.

Make sure you work in front of screen in appropriate conditions

Long-term work in front of a computer screen has a detrimental impact not only on our posture but also on our eyes. Blue light emitted by a computer or smartphone may contribute to the development of various eye conditions, including macular degeneration. Therefore, it is advisable to wear glasses with a blue light filter to protect the eyes.

Additionally, when we focus our eyes on one point on the computer or smartphone screen, we blink less frequently. Consequently, the eyes are not properly lubricated, which may result in malfunctioning of the tear film. To prevent this, apply lubricating eye drops – even every 1-2 hrs during work time.

Follow a healthy diet and stay hydrated

Modern pace of life and unhealthy eating patterns (accidental snacks, fast food or sweets) may lead to the development of diseases such as arterial hypertension, diabetes or atherosclerosis and, consequently, also eye diseases, including diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy.

Appropriately balanced diet not only positively affects our figure and general well-being, but also helps to strengthen the eyes and maintain good eyesight. Remember to provide your body with at least 1.5 l of water per day. Water deficiency manifests itself through eye dryness and the sense of general fatigue.

Regular ophthalmological appointments

Ophthalmological examinations should be on our lists of routine tests each of us undergoes! It is recommended to have our eyes examined at least once every two years. If the patient already wears glasses or contact lenses, they should undergo the examination at least once a year.

Regular eye examinations will let you maintain your eyes in good condition and implement suitable treatment in the case of a diagnosed eye disease or degeneration. Make an appointment for a specialist ophthalmological examination now and check the condition of your eyes!
