Are you dreaming of adrenaline rush associated with extreme sports? Would you like to tackle a challenge, overcome your fear and leave your comfort zone? You feel ready to face the challenge but you finally back out. It is not the fear but your refractive error that prevents you from fulfilling your bold dreams. How can this sad scenario be changed? Fortunately, laser vision correction is a solution to this problem!
Practising sports, especially extreme ones, requires physical agility, concentration and fast reactions. Extreme water sports, bungee jumping, parachuting… in case of numerous sports disciplines wearing glasses or contact lenses is not only uncomfortable but even impossible. That is why people with a refractive error often have to cross thrilling extreme sports out of their dream list.
If we are brave enough to pick up an extreme sport, we should be all the more ready to undergo a laser vision correction surgery, especially that it is a very short and painless procedure. But is it possible to practise extreme sports after the surgery? Is intensive physical effort safe for the eyes after the surgery?
Laser vision correction is undoubtedly safe and is not a contraindication to practicing physically demanding sports. On the contrary– it makes doing extreme sports possible and increases your comfort. However, it is essential to follow the doctor’s recommendations and not to go parachuting the next day after the surgery :)
The length of time required to return to physical effort depends on the type of activity, its intensity, severity of the refractive error, correction method, individual predispositions of the patient and doctor’s recommendations. The patient returns to everyday activities either the next day after the surgery or 2-3 days later, depending on the correction method applied. Gentle physical activities are allowed approximately two weeks after laser vision correction. Practising contact sports (martial arts, team sports) is not recommended for up to two months after the surgery as potential eye trauma could impede corneal healing process. It is strongly advised to postpone practising extreme sports for up to three months after the procedure.
If you are one of those people who keenly feel the limitations caused by their refractive error and would like to check whether they are eligible for laser vision correction, we encourage you to fill in a preliminary qualification form online or to make an appointment for a preliminary qualifying examination, using the form under the CONTACT tab. If you are still in two minds about the surgery and need further information before taking the decision, you can also submit a question for our doctors using a form available under ASK A DOCTOR tab or familiarize yourself with authentic questions of other patients and the answers of the doctors (also available się under this tab). The comfort of having perfect visual acuity is a new reality, which will boost your self-confidence and bravery in fulfilling your dreams.
