Currently most of the world’s population suffer from vision defects. Laser vision correction is gaining more and more popularity as an alternative to contact lenses and glasses, which may be burdensome not only at work in many professions but also in everyday life.
In our Centre we often have patients who need perfect vision to develop their professional careers, e.g. police officers, fire fighters, servicepeople or engine drivers. However, among candidates for laser vision correction there are also people who are simply tired of wearing glasses or contact lenses, and although their further careers are not affected by their vision defect, their desire to improve their life quality motivates them to undergo the procedure.
Glasses tend to fog up with temperature changes, they collect dust and fingerprints, and they are not comfortable to wear during rain or while bathing (e.g. in the sea). What is more, they may slide down your nose or even completely slip off and fall during brisk movement (e.g. while jogging or cycling) as well as while bending over. All this makes contact lenses seem a better solution, but you have to remember to replace them on a regular basis and take proper care of them while using. Unfortunately, you sometimes have to wear them in unfavourable conditions, for instance while travelling. Contact lenses may dry out, which in turn may lead to eye irritation. Laser vision correction enables us to forget about all bad experience connected with wearing glasses or contact lenses, and makes daily activities far easier and more pleasant to do. Travelling may become even more interesting when we are finally able to notice the beauty of the surrounding world in its tiniest details. With perfect vision development and realisation of your passions reach a totally new level.
For those who are planning to work in uniformed services or in aviation it is simply important to see clearly without the necessity to correct a vision defect with glasses or contact lenses. In other professions, on the other hand, a wrong correction method may pose a problem. For instance, glasses limit the visual field, so for a professional driver contact lenses, which move with the eyes, appear to be a better option although not everyone tolerates them equally well. Contact lenses prove unsuitable for people working in the hairdressing, nail styling or construction industry, as well as for florists, warehouse keepers, chefs and bakers. Airborne dust particles and spray may irritate the eyes or settle on the surface of the lenses, which in turn could lead to irritation, infection, or the unpleasant dry eye syndrome. The same applies to welders, dental technicians who manually make dentures, dentists or jewellers, for in their everyday working environment they are constantly exposed to various filings/ shavings of different materials which may get into the eyes and cause some injury. Eye exposure to unhealthy particles may be an argument for wearing glasses, but if the job requires additional safety equipment such as helmets or protective masks, wearing glasses will not be comfortable. They may slip off while bending over or get destroyed while lifting heavy weights or moving objects from place to place.
Sportspeople also complain about wearing glasses from time to time as it hinders them from jogging, practising contact sports or working out in the gym. Contact lenses, which in such situations appear to be a perfect alternative to glasses, often cause discomfort – they dry out while jogging or cycling, and in case of water sports they may collect bacteria and germs on their surface.
