Upper eyelids surgery — recommendations for the convalescence period |
03.05.2023 |
A plastic surgery of the upper eyelids is a quick and permanent way to achieve a dazzling look. It involves the removal of excess eyelid skin and possible fatty hernias. It takes about 1-1.5 hours for both eyes.
During the procedure local anaesthesia in the form of injection is used. This means that on the same day, once the entire procedure is finished, the patient returns home.
It is absolutely forbidden to drive vehicles immediately after the procedure. First of all, this is due to the fact that dressings are applied in the place of sutures, which limits visibility. Secondly, the sedatives, painkillers and anaesthesia administered during the procedure have a sleep-inducing effect and reduce the ability to react quickly on the road.
It is worth taking an accompanying person with you to the procedure, so that you have someone who can take care of returning home. If you can’t take an accompanying person with you, simply use a taxi. After 2-3 days, there are no specific contraindications to driving.
Only the next day after the eyelid surgery, the patient removes the dressings on their own. On the day of the procedure, during the discharge, the nurse explains exactly how to do it so as not to disturb the operated area. From this moment on, the patient should also apply topically (on the eyelids) medications in the form of ointments recommended by the surgeon. It is forbidden to use other preparations without consulting a doctor, as they may interfere with the healing process or stop it, leading to complications.
The sutures are removed at the first follow-up appointment, a week after the procedure. This is done by the ophthalmic surgeon who previously performed the procedure. The procedure itself is quick and painless and it does not require any form of anaesthesia.
Once the eyelids heal, there are no contraindications to applying make-up. The healing period usually takes 10 to 14 days. In the case of eyelash extensions, you should wait a little longer – approximately a month after the eyelid surgery.
Mild cardio exercise is allowed as early as 2-3 days after the procedure. Strength training can be started after 10-14 days. A return to the swimming pool is possible after about 14-30 days. The same rule applies to using a sauna.
However, it should be remembered that the given time is indicative and depends on the course of the healing process. The exact length of the healing period is influenced, among others, by the individual characteri-stics of each patient and the general health condition of their body.
Compliance with the doctor's recommendations is conducive to the correct healing of the treated area. It is important to consult all your concerns and expectations with an ophthalmic surgeon already at the qualification stage.
