What vision defects can be corrected with laser vision correction? |

Laser vision correction is popular all over the world. The procedure is quick and painless, and the correction of both eyes takes only 15 minutes.
It consists in the appropriate modelling of the front part of the cornea using a cold laser beam. This enables the image to be correctly focused on the retina, which means improved vision and permanent correction effect for the patient.
It is connected with inadequate refraction of light by too convex lens or the distance of the retina from the lens – a so-called elongated eyeball. The image of a distant object is formed in front of the retina, therefore distant objects appear blurred to people suffering from this refractive error.
The most common symptoms of myopia include:
Laser vision correction corrects myopia from -0.25 to -14 dioptres. It consists in “flattening” the shape of the cornea.
A refractive error caused by incorrect refraction of light by a lens that is too flat or too close to the retina – a so-called shortened eyeball. The image of a distant object is formed behind the retina and is clear, whereas close-up vision is impaired and objects which are near appear blurred.
The most common symptoms of hyperopia include:
A laser procedure allows for the correction of hyperopia from +0.25 to +6.0 dioptres through steeping the shape of the cornea.
Hyperopia is sometimes confused with presbyopia, the latter being a natural, progressive, physiological process which affects everyone over the age of 40-45. It is connected with the loss of elasticity in the natural intraocular lens. Unlike hyperopia, presbyopia cannot be permanently corrected through the laser vision correction surgery, because the laser operates on the surface of the cornea and does not interfere with the intraocular lens.
In the case of this vision defect, both close-up and distant vision is blurred as the light rays focus both in front of and behind the retina. Interestingly, astigmatism may result from abnormalities of both the cornea and the retina.
The most common symptoms of astigmatism include:
Astigmatism may have both plus and minus values. Laser vision correction will be a good solution for people whose astigmatism values fall between 0.25 and 6.0 dioptres.
One patient do not necessarily need to have only one refractive error: myopia or hyperopia, since both defects often coexist with astigmatism. Such combinations can also be corrected through the laser vision correction procedure.
